Ed’s Weekly Video Recommendation: Time-lapse Walk Across China

You are here: Home / Blog / Ed’s Weekly Video Recommendation: Time-lapse Walk Across China

Time-lapse videos are always fun, and this one is no exception! After last week’s super long and difficult Obama Victory Speech Video, this week’s video has almost no talking and only a little text to read. This week’s video was made by a young man who walked around China for 1 year, documenting his trip by taking a picture every day and at the end of the year splicing the photos together to make a time-lapse video. Every picture was taken with his face in the middle of the shot, usually sporting the same serious face, but at certain points he does crack a smile, such as at the 1000km point or when he is reunited with his girlfriend. Originally he had planned to walk from Beijing to Germany, but for some reason gave up this goal and instead simply walked around China for a year. He realized that if he never shaved or cut his hair, it would make an interesting time-lapse video. Although you will see shots of him on buses or airplanes, his initial journey, from Beijing to Urumqi, was entirely done on foot. After that he did some plane traveling for “personal or visa reasons” (as explained in the description below the video), but then continued to walk until the completion of one year. Note: you can keep track of his distance traveled on foot in the bottom right corner of the screen. Enjoy!
