Ed’s Weekly Video Recommendation: Children’s Videos

You are here: Home / Blog / Ed’s Weekly Video Recommendation: Children’s Videos

Recent posts about raising multilingual children, taking kids to the zoo, family outings and so on have made me want to post some of my favourite kids videos. Truly timeless, loved by children for many many generations, Sesame Street is now in it’s 45th season and going strong. Created by the CTW (Children’s Television Workshop), a non-profit organization aimed at educating children, and starring the puppetry of the world’s most famous puppeteer, Jim Henson, Sesame Street is a must for most kids. Therefore as a tool for studying English, it is a true gem. Check out this clip with Eric Stonestreet from Modern Family and Abby as they talk about a new vocabulary word: remember. If you like this clip, there are many many more. Good luck!

Sesame Street: Remember!
Every week I post videos which I recommend to my students. As extra study and an extra chance to practice English listening and shadowing between lessons, these videos are short easy to understand and have fairly simple English. I suggest students at my English “eikaiwa” in Otsu to watch each clip at least 3 times, in order to fully understand the English thus enabling them to enjoy the videos to the full extent and get the most English education as possible from each short clip.

45th season! I was in elementary school when it began, remember it well! There was nothing like it then and today still one of the best kid’s shows ever conceived.
