Every week I find a whole bunch of fun video clips. Some educational, some strange, others fun. Every week I post my favorite clips here for my students to enjoy, and hopefully get a little extra learning out of them. Though not always specifically English study videos, all of them are useful for English studying. Can’t understand everything you see or hear? No problem- it should take many many years of studying rigorously to be able to understand all of what you hear in the clips. I’ve studied Japanese since I moved to Japan in 2007 AND I live in Japan and yet I can barely understand 30% of the dialogue in the Japanese movies and dramas that I watch. So give yourself a break if you can’t understand everything after only a couple years of study- you have plenty of time to learn more and improve, so just enjoy the clips. I suggest you watch each video at the least 3 times- the 1st time just to get the general idea behind the clip the 2nd time try to get better detail, the final time to really bring it all together. Hope you can learn something new!
This week’s clip should be fun for most students as it is about Japan and about everyone’s favorite Kansai dish- okonomiyaki. I read about this your woman from Canada who recently moved to Japan and started making video blogs about her life in Japan. They are viral hits in Japan- well made, good music, fun, short and sweet and the girl has a very likeable personality. Her videos have become so popular that she doesn’t need to work because she gets advertising money from her videos. Her job has become…. making videos blogs about Japan. Students should find these especially useful as she always puts Japanese subtitles and there is limited talking. Sometimes she speaks in Japanese with English subtitles. Hope you’re not too hungry after watching this clip. If you want to study more, she has about 150 videos now, all about life in Japan from the perspective of a foreigner. Yup.
