Hello! For all you nature lovers out there, if you thought such a populated and developed country would not long support the existence of indigenous and often rare species of plants and animals, you’re wrong! Japan is home to hundreds of species of semi-tropical plants as well as at least 45 unique species of mammals and birds and an untold number of spiders and insects. A really wonderful time to appreciate them is during the rainy season when temperatures and high humidity are great for bugs! Head out into the mountains, better yet towards the maritime jungles of northern Hyogo and Kyoto Prefectures at the Sea of Japan in June or July, before the tourists come and you’ll find a surprising variety of colorful flora and fauna I guarantee you have not seen elsewhere! The humidity can be something else so bring lots of clean T-shirts!
Drive carefully!
