On the weekend I took a group of students to my local bar in Shimo Kitazawa. Shimo Kitazawa is a popular stop on the Odakyu line and is also conveniently located on the Inokashira train line. It’s very close to both Shinjuku and Shibuya and extremely popular with Uni students, young people from all around who want to experience a more local town feel and for those who want to escape the crowds of Shibuya and other big cities around Tokyo.
There are some great streets and shops to look around and generally there is always something going on, especially when the bars come alive most nights. We all met at the station around 7:30 pm on Saturday night and proceeded to the bar. Enotria Diana is my local drinking spot, it’s an Italian wine bar with a decent wine list and great food however the real beauty of the the place is that it’s also a B.Y.O. which is rare in Tokyo.
After we all warmed up from the cold and cracked our first bottle of wine the night got under way as we talked over drinks and caught up on the latest stories. A few of my foreign friends joined later in the evening so it was a great chance for my students to practice their English and also to listen to different English accents especially as some of my friends come from the U.K, U.S, Canada and Australia. The night got away from us which is always a good sign that everyone had fun and most of us missed our last trains and had to get taxis home. The students from Asagaya School all had a great night and enjoyed practicing their English so we are already planning our next night out.
Thanks everyone for making it such a great night.
Doug,
Isn’t it great to be able to enjoy yourself while providing such great opportunities to your students to practice their English in a natural setting? It’s also a great way to share our foreign cultures with each other and our English students!
Cheers,
