Doing it Right… Japanese Desserts

You are here: Home / Blog / Doing it Right… Japanese Desserts

As with so many things, dessert is something that is done well in Japan, with thought and consideration. Not to mention the absolute beauty and deliciousness of Japanese sweets! Recently we visited Chocola, a small cafe and cake shop on Lake Biwa in Otsu, Shiga. Chocola offers a 1000 yen all-u-can-drink plus 1 dessert deal weekday afternoons and all-u-can-drink includes ALL the drinks on the menu, including lattes, mixed smoothies, milkshakes and more. Chiharu’s favorite dessert is the cake parfait, a huge parfait topped with any cake from the menu. Delicious. I’ll let this picture do the talking for me.

Hi Ed, thanks for the comment below. Of course Omi-Maiko has very special meaning for you and Chiharu. And we visited the onsen too. Chocola – I’m headed for it cuz Yoko will insist! Is it up R161 or on the east side of the lake?

Hi Martin- It’s on the west side of the lake, right in between Zeze and Hamaotsu. It’s one of the 4 cafes right next to Biwako Hall. Nice place to go for a walk along the lake as well. There are several city parking lots along the lake there, and they will stamp your parking pass and you should get 2 hours free. If you know where Smith’s School of English Otsu is located, it’s just down the hill and follow the road to the right. Enjoy! Let me know when you are coming and maybe we can connect. Edward

C’mon up to Otsu anytime and we’ll go for some desserts by the lake!
