Do It Now (with a plan)

You are here: Home / English School Articles / Do It Now (with a plan)

My winners bible is coming along nicely.  I look at it for a few minutes almost everyday (usually in ‘dead time’ when I can’t use the computer, and the kids are asleep).  I can say that it is making me feel better, and perhaps helping me no only by motivation, but by keeping me on track.  Motivation is pretty important.  But motivation is nothing without a plan or a map of some kind.

I guess you could say that the old phrase, ‘Do it now’ is the engine, but that is not enough.  It begs the question, ‘Do whaat now?’  And that is where the plan comes in.  You need a plan or a map to help keep you on course, or all your energy will be squandered and wasted.  Without the plan you can go in different directions and not make any real gains.

I met a guy  who wanted me to buy some software that would help me do something that I really need to do.  I was lucky because I already had my plan and map.  What he proposed was valid, but it would have taken my energy away from the focus I have.  I needed that plan to keep me on track.  Otherwise I would spend some energy doing a little of this, a little of that, and a whole lot of, well, basically, nothing.

I didn’t buy the software, and I am much further ahead today.  Maybe in the future I will get it but for now, it is not on my plan.

I try to help my students here at Smith School of English keep on track and stick to their plan for studying English. If they have even one picture to make their own learning English winner’s bible, that will help them a little bit more.  Growth comes in small steps.
