Crossword puzzles are said to be the most popular and widespread word game in the world. As for myself, I am just beginning to learn about how interesting they actually are. I have done some in the past when I was a child, yet have never really immersed myself fully. That is, until recently. Paul, my partner at Smith’s School of English, Tsuruhashi has re-introduced these “brain building, vocabulary boosting, mind boggling” word games into my life. I’ve been buying The Daily Yomiuri at a small newstand in Tamatsukuri station every morning for the last 2 weeks. My goal is to finish the whole thing by the time the day is done. As I am quite busy as of late, this is no easy task. I tend to spend 5 minutes here, 5 minutes there trying to solve it little by little. I’ve even had to call Paul a few times and ask him “What did you get for #6, down? I’m stumped!” It’s been a great way for me to do a little 脳トレンイング (brain training) while on my way to work. I encourage any one who is looking to increase their vocabulary and challenge their linguistic ability to give it a try.
Good luck!
Mike
