Well, since taking over at Smith‘s School of English Tsuruhashi, Paul and I have had our hands quite full these last few weeks giving the ol’ girl a nice new face lift. Thanks to all the students, teachers, and head office, Smith Tsuruhashi has always had a solid core of good people making it what it is, a friendly and enjoyable place to learn English.
Being the new owners, we just wanted to tidy things up a bit and make it more of our own. Not only was it great to see new faces walking through our door these past few weeks for trial lessons, it felt really good to see how a little hard work paid off. With these new additions to our school, it gave us a positive feeling heading into the break. In order to keep this momentum from fading, Paul and I have been cleaning and re-organizing the school inside and out so that we would be ready to open May 7th.
The changes we have made aren’t big, yet we’re hoping they will give the school a fresh new look for our existing students, and a more welcoming environment for potential ones. With nothing more than elbow grease, sweat, and a fine little chemical compound meant to destroy any grime in its way, Paul and I stripped through the floor to reveal a beautiful off-white tile. The look in our faces as we scrubbed away this layer of time left us both mystified and excited. Mystified because we could see our own faces through our floors reflection, and excited because it meant the start of something new. With a new carpet and a few new additions to our classroom and office, we are beginning to see a school that still has many of the characteristics of old and some wonderful splashes of things new. With the foundation of our school being renewed, the pieces are starting to fall into place. Now that school has begun, we are back and ready for business. Let’s hope that these next coming months will be wonderful for all Smith schools and their students.

Always nice to clean everything up…been wanting to do the same over in Hirakata and hopefully by year end I’ll be able to get new wallpaper put in. Keeping my fingers crossed.
