I’ve been in Japan for 26 years as an English teacher, 16 with Smith’s School of English here in Sagamihara. Prior to that I was here for 7 years as a US Army musician. You could say I love Japan. Our family Christmas in Sagamihara, Japan was very special last December.
How quickly time passes. Both of my children were born here; now full-blown responsible parents earning a solid living in Japan.
We had a nice gathering on Christmas Day last year, and it was wonderful to see the four little ones so excited. Christmas is not overblown in Japan. Santa arrives with a gift or two, and that is about it. The kids love it.
It was special this year because we could actually get together on Christmas Day, Saturday- not a work day. Relaxing, wonderful day. And to top it all off, my son and his wife announced that we have another little one coming to join us next August! Life is good in Japan.
Please have a look and listen to Chiharu and Edward from Smith’s School of English, Otsu; wishing all a happy holiday. I found it very touching. Chiharu has a beautiful voice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sD8tRnXFQqw
