Christmas Cake in Japan

You are here: Home / Blog / Christmas Cake in Japan

It’s always a lot of fun teaching English in Japan at my English conversation (英会話) school, Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi (スミス英会話塚口校) in Tsukaguchi (塚口), Amagasaki (尼崎市), Hyogo Prefecture (兵庫県).   Christmas is coming soon so it has been the topic of many fun conversations at my English conversation school in Japan.  Many  people celebrate Christmas here but there are differences between Christmas in Japan and Christmas in Canada (where I’m from).   For example, many people in Japan eat Christmas cake on Christmas Eve.  Japanese Christmas cake is typically a round sponge cake with whipped cream and fruit toppings (often strawberries).  When I talk with students about Christmas, I ask them if they’re going to eat Christmas cake and most of them say “Yes”.  I then explain that in Canada, we don’t have such a custom and tell them what my family did in Canada on Christmas Eve.  I enjoy sharing my Canadian culture with my students at my English conversation school (英会話スクール) in Tsukaguchi (塚口) and learning about Japanese culture from them.  Teaching English in Japan at Smith’s School of English Tsukaguchi is great! (^.^)
