It is really quite scary how fast time passes! Here I am in Japan, for 5 years now, and, approaching 30!!! Yes, I just spent my 29th birthday last Tuesday at Kyobashi. Well, I didn’t get a full-on birthday party, which isn’t my style anyway, I was congratulated by my closest colleague and handed a really cute pair of earrings, while my other colleagues complained about me not telling them my birthday beforehand…
After my first class, I heard some excited chattering in the lobby and went to have a quick peek. Guess what I saw? One of my regular students smiling at me with a big bunch of flowers in her hands! Another surprise birthday present! Now everybody in the lobby knew that it was my birthday and I got a big and loud “ happy birthday” from all the students waiting for there English classes. This was not the end of it though, it was an evening full of surprises, I received two more presents from my regular students and numerous “happy birthday”s.
This was the first time for me to spend my birthday in an English school classroom, but it was surely one of the best! In fact, it was so good that I seemed to have forgotten that it was the last birthday in my 20’s…
