Being There For My Student

You are here: Home / Blog / Being There For My Student

Yesterday was Thursday, a humid day, and our lounge filled up with hot and bothered students. I offered rounds of drinks along with sympathy and started a relaxing conversation about an upcoming movie. I rounded up my student and invited him into my class, as I started he looked very stressful and throughout the lesson seemed to wonder off a few times into his own thoughts. Seeing this I took my lesson plan and made it fun and exciting so I could keep his attention on me and take his mind away from his troubles. Once the lesson was coming to an end I offered my shoulder to talk about his troubles, he told me he’s become flooded with homework and his recent coursework was to sing a song in English. He said that he can understand the song and has no problem with the words, but his pronunciation was terrible. I offered he bring his coursework to lesson next week and we would do a pronunciation lesson, along with a sing along! He was ecstatic with my offer and by the time the 45min mark hit the dot I was able to turn his frown up side down. It was a wonderful feeling to see my students shoulders relax and leave my lesson with a smile.

Now I better get my singing voice ready for next week, Karaoke here we come!
