ask, ask, ask

You are here: Home / Blog / ask, ask, ask

My wife once told me that I was one of the luckiest people she had ever met. I seem to get everything I go after. I honestly had never really thought about it but looking back over my life I guess she’s right. As a child my dream was to go to Disneyland and since I had never been outside of England at the time it seemed almost impossible. But just before my 9th birthday that came true. Then I dreamt of studying in America and despite both my parents being against it somehow I wore them down and when I was 18 off I went to California to attend Pitzer College. Then I decided to study abroad at Kansai Gaidai, which I did a year later and was actually the youngest student ever to attend their program. After graduation I worked in Japan as a teacher at a small growing school but wanted more and low and behold, 2 years later, I had started my own school (Smith’s 英会話 Hirakata). My father’s friend gave me a hotel voucher for 4 nights stay at a hotel in the Maldives which was another dream of mine. I married the woman of my dreams. I even survived the tsunami. I have a beautiful son. Wonderful students. And of course, parents that supported me at everything I chose to do. So yes, I guess I am lucky.

You might be asking yourself, “Well, what’s your secret?” I wish I had a better answer than the one I’m going to give you but it comes in two parts…part 1 – ask, ask and keep asking because you will never know if you don’t. part 2 – never give up. Simple right?!

In life we’re all lucky…and at times unlucky. Focus on the good, not the bad, and you’ll be amazed at what you comes your way.

Adrian
