Recently we worked another 1-Point that bears scrutiny thanks to the wonderful submissions I received at Kotoen. I just feel compeled to share them with you here though many have, of course, already been done on the smithweb soapbox. Check out the homework here: www.smithweb.co.jp/
At Kotoen, the submissions were quite straightforward and very enjoyable to listen to. One woman said:
I sometimes pretend to listen to what my husband says because if I don’t he will get angry. ( Yeah, you think…..? Ha Ha! )
Another woman offered this one:
I sometimes pretend to enjoy my neighbor’s coffee because she really tries hard to make it delicious but it really isn’t! (Better not tell! )
A third student submitted this winner: I sometimes pretend to laugh at my grandfather’s jokes because if I don’t he’ll go beserk! ( Beserk? Really? My goodness! )
Another woman changed the subject: My husband pretends to ignore me because I seem to complain a lot when he’s around. ( Why, I wonder? )

Yes, that OP offered a great segue to discussions of…嘘も方便;)

One nice example from a younger student at Kyobashi:
‘I sometimes pretend to study because I don’t want to help with chores’
(Sounds like a version of me 20 years ago.)

Ha ha ha! It’s great to see that your students are having fun with the one-points. I get some funny sentences from students at my school too which is a lot of fun. 🙂
