This is an introductory account of life at Senriyama, a delightfully small town, located in northern Osaka, at which one of the branches of Smith’s School of English (英会話スクール) lies. Senriyama (千里山) is situated conveniently centrally on the Kita senri (北千里) line and houses the larger area of Suita(吹田). It is best described as a wealthy semi-suburb that has recently begun a tsunami of apartment erection. It’s pleasantly located residential side roads contain a wonderful array of different plants, a far cry from the urbanised jungle that is central Osaka. The charm of Senriyama is reflected in its people, the children happily content with beaming smiles of joy whilst the laidback adults stroll carefree with little sign of weariness. People in Senriyama are generally internationally aware, and one feels a sense of shared appreciation in firstly, the generous hospitality that is offered to an alien stranger and secondly a personal responsibility to integrate and add genuine value to the local community.
