A quick lesson, but a great lesson

You are here: Home / Blog / A quick lesson, but a great lesson

My last student of the night ended up being about 10-15 minutes late, I was starting to think that she wasn’t going to turn up. Thank goodness she did, as it was a great lesson.
She was a higher level student so we went through the ET and Routine like a breeze, which was good for the shortened amount of time that we had.

The item we did was Ability 2. This was the students first time doing this item so I was very pleased with how it went.
Ability 2 is all about using different ways to accept and decline invitations. There was quite a lot of writing in this lesson so I felt a little sorry for this student, and her hand, trying to write everything down frantically. I explained everything to her rather quickly, though she also picked it up at the same speed, I asked her if she had any questions and she said no everytime I checked.

There was one more main part of the Item that I had to write on the board so she again, frantically took down some notes in her book, and then it was time for practice. Since she was the only student in the class, I was her partner for this part of the lesson. We used the word cards from the item and practiced accepting and declining invitations by asking questions and using hyperthetical answers like, “I’m busy, maybe next time.” This answer the student came up with when I asked her if she would like to go to the gym with me, I thought it was a great answer as I did not expect this from her.

I was very impressed with her asking a lot of questions and using really creative asnwers for accepting or declining my invitations. I was also impressed with her because she used her imagination, instead of just using her the notes that were given to her. So she definitely did pick everything up as fast as I was going through it because it showed during the practice part of the lesson.

I hope she will remember all of the different ways to ask and answer questions to do with invitations so she doesn’t end up going to something she really doesn’t want to go to, or so she doesn’t end up missing out on anything great and exciting.
