I was in for a pleasant surprise last month when I went to Sagano. My first trip there had been so relaxing and enjoyable that I wanted to go again. Actually, I had also wanted to take photos of the fall colours, and although they weren’t ready yet, I still had a nice time. For lunch I ate at a small curry restaurant that I’d seen on my first visit. I didn’t get the name of the place though (I’ve really got to start remembering restaurant names).

From there I took a stroll through Gio-ji temple. It has beautiful moss gardens and was so quiet and peaceful that I nearly lost track of time. I couldn’t stop taking pictures, which is kinda understandable because photography is one of my hobbies. If you find yourself in Sagano, I highly recommend this temple.

I left there and remembered a really nice neighbourhood I’d visited before. As I was passing through it, I saw a lady cleaning outside of her home. When I commented on the beautiful flowers, she invited me into her backyard, and showed me her collection of flowers and plants. She spoke English, which was a bit of a surprise.

The biggest surprise though, was that she gave me some flowers and Koke to take home.

All-in-all, it was a great day. I’ll have to go again soon since I was too early to take pictures of the fall colours last time. And maybe I’ll take a little something for that nice lady.
a good story, sylvester .. and even without the autumn colours your pictures are beautiful .. i especially like the moss garden ..
Thanks Jane. I was amazed by how friendly the lady was. There are a number of beautiful Moss temples here in Japan.
