I had a very enjoyable day yesterday, teaching English at my conversation school at Nakamozu (スミス英会話 なかもず校). There are not too many days that I don’t enjoy at Nakamozu and my other Smith’s School of English in Sakai Higashi (スミス英会話 堺東校). I had two new students call back from trial lessons and join at Sakai Higashi and another trail lesson booked in at Nakamozu. New students always put a spring in my step! Yesterday however was particularly pleasant as it was my birthday.
To turn 34 in Australia isn’t really that big of a deal. The more important milestones are the 18th – legally allowed to drink alcohol and required to vote, 21st, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th and so on. However every birthday while teaching English in Japan has felt special due to the kindness of my students, for which I am very grateful.
I received various different kinds of tea, candy and a lovely bottle of French Pinot Noir. I will enjoy drinking that with some friends this weekend. I am having a BBQ at my house for my son’s 1st birthday this Friday.
Thank you to my students for all of your well wishes and gifts. It means a lot to me and is greatly appreciated.
