Today’s high level student managed to do the ET and Routine without any problems whatsoever. He’s used to the format of the loop by now so he smoothly goes through all 4 areas with confidence. However, when we got to the item, which was the ‘Ghosts’ unit from the Let’s Talk folder, he indicated that he’d like to discuss something different. So, considering that he was both high level and in a lesson by himself today, I entertained his topic suggestion.
He was very interested in discussing personality traits, and the evolution of thinking patterns over the course of the past 100 or so years. This sounded like a very promising conversation but I was careful not to get too carried away and forget my role of supplying him with corrections and some new expressions. We delved into the correlation between set ways of thinking and tastes in art… it was quite a lengthy discussion with many twists and turns around the way so it would be impossible for me to sum it all up in a few paragraphs. However, he told me that he had a very enjoyable lesson and learned many new things.
His new favorite phrase that he picked up from the lesson is “(beauty) is in the eye of the beholder.” And he now likes to refer to himself as an artistic enigma. I’m very happy that I was able to accommodate the lesson to his individual tastes.
