She was visibly nervous when she sat down in front of me. This is not a rare occasion, because most trial students are understandably nervous, many of them speaking to a foreigner for the first time. We started very slowly with easy questions, and I soon realized that she was fully capable. Now to get past the nervousness…
This is perhaps, the most satisfying part of my job. I absolutely love taking a potential student from nervousness to relaxation. I gave her the easiest lesson possible, and she aced it. As her nerves calmed, I took her just a bit further in order to confirm her level of speaking. She was a star.
Confidence-building in a matter of forty-five minutes. She joined, and left with a smile on her face. Anyone can speak English, but too often fear gets in the way, discouraging people. I love their fear because it makes me work harder, and the satisfaction I get from someone conquering their fear with my help is priceless. I like doing what I do.
