I have read several articles here about how my fellow franchisees at Smiths School of English are enjoying their summer by either hosting or attending various summer events and I would just like to add my short story as well.
Last Sunday evening I and a group of students from Smiths School of English in Fuse (スミス英会話布施) had the pleasure of attending the annual Kawachi Ondo Matsuri in Yao City at Joukouji and listening to the most famous singer of Kawachi ondo folk music, Kawachiya Kikusuimaru (河内家 菊水丸) .
We were standing front and center so… we enjoyed a great view of Kawachiya Kikusuimaru (河内家 菊水丸) and the surrounding people dancing the kawachi ondo bon odori.
Of course no summer festival in Japan is complete without also enjoying the traditional foods sold by the vendors.
I woud like to say “Thank you” to my students from Smiths School of English in Fuse who were able to attend this event with me. I appreciate it; it was a wonderful first-time experience for me and several of the students.
Just a reminder that if you are still interested in attending a “bon-odori”, Yao City will be hosting their annual event this coming Saturday August 29, 2009. 八尾河内音頭まつり
I’ve heard its quite a big event and I’m planning to drop by after work and meet up with some students.
Details are here:

Having the opportunity to enjoy these kinds of events is an added benefit of being a franchisee at Smiths School of English. It provides us the opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture and also to build deeper relationships with both our students and the local community.
Enjoy,
