This year many people are taking holidays for a longer period of time than is customary and Tokyo is very much quieter than usual. So it’s a great place to visit now as it has some wonderful tourist attractions and a very fantastic night life.
I have been teaching a few classes each day as I am commencing my break a week later than the other Smith’s School of English because I am going to Australia on the 7th May and will return on May 15th just in time for a farewell get together that we are having for Dean, ex SSE owner of the Kichijoji franchise, who is returning to the USA to study at Columbia University. Those of you who wish to join the gathering are more than welcome to come along. It is on Saturday night (8pm)– May 16th at Gomaya in Shibuya.
The majority of my Koenji students have headed off on their breaks already and those that haven’t will do so this coming Friday or Saturday. Some are travelling within Japan and others overseas with many of them going to visit their families and friends in their hometowns.
There is an exciting feeling in the air and this year I too have the same reaction as I am looking forward to seeing my 96 year old mother who I miss quite a lot, as I saw her at least once a week while in Australia and I have not seen her now for almost four years.
God speed may you all have a safe and relaxing holiday.

Ken,
Have a great time back home in Australia. I just got back from Hawaii and visiting my son’s family. This time I just did some R&R and a little snorkeling. We had an ocean view from our condo unit overlooking the Ilikai Yacht Harbor. Spectacular sunsets! Nine days in Paradise! I love the long holidays we can have at Smith’s. Just great!
