Today the world lost “The King of Pop” – Michael Jackson, an amazing entertainer. He was a singer, dancer, lyricist, musician, and choreographer a truly all round artiste. Without doubt he was one of a kind, there will never be another so gifted. His music will live on, as has that of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and The Beatles. From the age of 11 he was an instant success as the lead singer of The Jackson 5 and reached the pinnacle of his career with his “Thriller” album which has sold more copies than any other album released before or after it.
I was fortunate to see him in concert during his tour of Australia and his live performances blew the members of the audience, including myself, away, it was surreal and is a most memorable and auspicious time in my life.
In Melbourne he stayed at the Hyatt Hotel and on numerous occasions I passed within metres of him as he went to and fro from concert to concert etc.I am pleased to have some photographs that I took as a record of this His death has enabled me to reminisce and relive those exquisite days
The following (from Wikipedia) sums up his stunning impact on the music world.
“One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records—including one for “Most Successful Entertainer of All Time”—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career—more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era—and the sales of over 750 million albums worldwide. Cited as one of the world’s most famous men, Jackson’s highly publicized personal life, coupled with his successful career, made him part of popular culture for almost four decades “
Vale King Michael musical genius and performer extraordinaire.
