In my lesson yesterday my student (doctor and his wife) shared our “bad experiences” with a particular American car maker’s cars. It seems that we had exactly the same kinds of troubles: power windows that stopped working, air conditioning that broke multiple times, especially just before the hottest season, and transmission problems. We shared a very nice and long laugh about it. Both cars were made by the same car maker but his was a 4-wheel drive model and mine was an large sedan. These cars obviously had a lot of common parts with the same quality problems. We both agreed we were not going to buy that brand of car again but admitted that it was too bad because there were many things about those cars that we both liked a lot.
These kinds of experiences during the lesson remind me of how much fun it is to teach English here in Japan. Now a days we share so much in our daily experience with our Japanese students that there are bound to be dozens of such opportunities for a good laugh. I can’t wait for the next one!
