I enjoy getting up early in the morning and passing out flyers. It feels good to feel the morning freshness and I enjoy greeting people at the local stations as they are making their way to work. Some take the flyer, others don’t but they go on their way with a good impression of both me and Smiths School of English. スミス英会話布施校
I also enjoy the exercise it provides for me. Additionally, I often see current students and it always makes me happy to greet them and wish them a “nice day”. But from time to time I have such an interesting and unique experience while doing flyers that… it makes an impression on me and I can’t forget it. I wonder if any other of my fellow franchisees can share such stories. I’ve had numerous over the years.
I had one such experience recently while handing out flyers at a nearby station. (河内永和)
I and another member of the Smiths School of English Fuse (スミス英会話) flyer team were working together at Kawachi Eiwa Station. (河内永和駅)
During a brief rush and without really paying close attention I placed a flyer into the hands of a little older lady who upon seeing the flyer in her hands and having no idea where it materialized from blurted out “What’s this?!” in Japanese. She then looked up at me and the look on her face grew even more surprised when she saw this big foreigner looking down at her with a big smile and a “good morning!” Her face immediately lit up. It’s amazing how contagious a smile can be.
I explained to her that the flyer was for an English language school in Fuse and that I would be waiting for her that afternoon if she chose to book a trial lesson and level check. (布施校のスミス英会話)
Upon hearing that she immediately began to laugh heartily and informed me that at her age, which I’m guessing to have been around 80 years old or so, there was no way for her brain to retain anything. I told her it was never too late, upon which she asked me what day it was. She had quite a sense of humor.
We bantered for about 5 minutes during which time I learned that her granddaughter was currently studying English in Australia and that she enjoyed the pictures she received from time to time. She also made sure to inquire if I agreed with her that Japan is a good country to live in. Of course I agreed!
Before leaving she asked me for an additional flyer and said she would give it to a friend of hers whose grandson doesn’t really like studying and insist he get his act together and learn English. She jokingly said that he isn’t even so good at Japanese so wondered if he would be able to handle English. I assured her that if he showed up I would do my best to help him with English though I couldn’t do much about the Japanese. We had a good laugh and it put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.
I hope I was able to do the same for her.
I still think about that little older lady from Kawachi Eiwa from time to time and how lucky we each were to cross paths that day for a few short moments. (河内永和)
We all have such moments in our busy lives every day; let’s remember to take the time to savor them and exploit them to the fullest.
You never know when someone is gonna make your day or you theirs.
Enjoy,

Hi Alex, Yes I too often have fun times as I, no doubt like you and most SSE owners, am well-known in the area and as the majority of the Japanese people are very friendly the morning soon goes and so do the kgs.
