While attending the Smith’s School of English Training Seminar on Sunday, the group of franchise owners lead by Mark Smith covered a lot of valuable ground. One of the many topics we covered was how the current global economic problems are affecting us, the franchise owners and importantly, our students. You do not have to be an expert in world economics to realize that many people are feeling the strain. A direct way to combat this negativity is to simply wear a smile whilst you are out in public, and especially in the mornings when doing flyers. The mornings are starting to get colder, and so now is when the public (future students) will appreciate a warm smile.
I received an email from Edward, a fellow Smith franchise owner (SSE Ohtsu) which brought a smile to my face, so I thought I would share it with everyone. (Thanks Ed!!)……
Financial uncertainty hits Japan
Following the problems in the financial sector in the US, uncertainty has now hit Japan.
In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches.
Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived.
While Samurai Bank is soldiering on following sharp cutbacks, Ninja Bank is reported to have taken a hit, but they remain in the black.
Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.
Have a great day everyone!!!

Tim,
You are very welcome. Better to smile and make the most of a difficult situation…. good thing i didn’t have money at Origami Bank!
Ed, SSE Ohtsu
Tim,
Thanks for putting that up and Ed thanks for sending that email as well!
I have already used this light-hearted article with higher-level students in discussing the financial difficulties being currently faced by world markets.
Alex
By the way, it was great to see you both at our recent seminar.
