Recently, my students and I have been to a few of Kyoto’s light up shows. They
are a beautiful sight this time of year, highlighting the Autumn season colors, among Japanese gardens, burning incense and samples of hot tea (I prefer the hot sake.) It’s obvious I wasn’t designed for kneeling on tatami mats, but the sake helps numb the pain somewhat.
Kyoto is a great place for sightseeing on foot or bicycle. At least once a month my students and I plan some activity. It gives us the chance to have some fun doing something outside of the classroom, student can meet other students, I can learn something from them taking in some of Kyoto’s sights. Thus, my students are actually guaranteed five classes a month, the fifth being completely optional at no extra charge. Other than visiting temples we have played billiards, been to Spa-World in Osaka and to some very tasty restaurants. This month we’ll have a Christmas Party and soon following a tour of a student families sake factory.
Happy safe holiday everyone!
