So in my last lesson last night I was asked by the two students to give them something to practice the R and L sound. I came up with the above sentence. I had them each read the sentence and then corrected their “R” pronunciation for the words “really” and “lyrics” which turned out to be a good excercise since the order of the “L” and “R” is reversed in these words.
Watching them struggle with pronouncing these differently instead of pronouncing them the same as most Japanese students do, I realized that the “Pronunciation Course” that Smith’s offers separately is a good course to offer all of our students. Most of them really need to master these sounds in order to raise their confidence level to speak English.
I highly recommend it.
