Having lived in Asia for over 20 years now I must say that I’ve been spoiled. I’ve stayed at 5-star hotels, had maids and drivers and eaten at some fantastic restaurants. I remember when I first came to Japan 14 years ago as a student I thought prices were high here but since that time the rest of the world’s gotten more and more expensive while Japan’s prices have stayed relatively the same. On a students’ budget I wasn’t able to enjoy the great restaurants here but nowadays I don’t even bat an eye when I pay 5,000 for dinner and rarely am I disappointed. The meat and fish that is served here is simply amazing. One of the things I love to do is make lists so I’m busy preparing a list of the best restaurants I know in Kansai. An important factor for me is satisfaction, I’m not into paying crazy prices for dinners that leave me feeling I lost money but rather ones where I feel I got a good deal. I’ll do my best to put up one new restaurant each month for people to check out as well as give my students a copy of the list once it’s ready cuz aren’t we always wondering where’s somewhere good to eat.

This month’s restaurant would have to be one of my top 5. It’s called MONAMI in Tanimachi 6-chome near exit number 3 of the Tanimachi-line I believe. It’s just in the arcade there. No reservations are allowed and usually you’ll be waiting for 20-30 mins. but it’s worth it. It’s a hamburg restaurant and is about 1800 for dinner but it’ll fill you up. Rice, French Fries, Salad, Hamburg, etc. If you feel you want to splurge I highly recommend the GYU TATAKI (raw Kobe beef) – it melts in your mouth. That’s slightly more expensive but worth every penny. Best deal in the city if you ask me.
Enjoy!!

Adrian
