I’m sure there are many of you like myself who had never done any flyer work before coming to Japan. I remember being a little weary about it at first but I thought I’ll give it a shot and see what happens. The second student who joined my school dropped by with a flyer in her hand shortly after I first opened and she continues coming to class once a week 4 years later. I have many more examples such as this from getting out there introducing myself and my school at the local stations. I’ve met a lot of great people by doing this and I know that I continue to get positive results. Even if a particular days flyer work doesn’t end up in a trial, I’m always guaranteed to get a smile and hello, have a chat with someone new or meet some of the local characters I’ve become quite familiar with here in Katsura.
Here’s a few examples:
1. One fellow who always acknowledges me with a crushing handshake in which case I have to hand out the remaining flyers with my other hand.
2. A very cheerful, extroverted chap who always starts talking to me from about 20m away saying “Hello, you are fine and so am I!”
3. A fashionable, fearless woman who often asks me for a dance takes my flyer and then says “Congratulations”.
And to all those folks who regardless of whether they take a flyer or not, that say “good morning” with a smile, I say “thank you!”
