I had the night off on Friday and by a lucky chance was able to meet up with an old student of ours. She had first joined the school when she lived in our neighborhood, then stopped for a while when she moved away to Hayama (in the Miura Peninsula). It didn’t take long before she decided to come back to Smith’s Azamino, as she really enjoyed studying with us. She made the long journey to see us twice a month, taking double lessons each time. (We have a handful of students who, like this student, travel quite a ways to study with us. They usually take two lessons each time they come.) She was forced to quit last year when she gave birth to her first baby. Until Friday, I hadn’t had the chance to meet her child, so I was excited we could get our schedules to match. She had wanted to do a bit of shopping, so we met in Motomachi and spent a few hours wandering around. We had a bite to eat, got a coffee, bought a couple of small things, and did some window shopping. It was great to catch up on all that had been happening for the last few months. Her English is still excellent! She still stays in touch with one of the students she met at our school, and they are good friends, so even now I feel as if she is part of our school. I am sure we will remain friends for many years to come!
