Today was my first Saturday back after a little break. I was glad to see on the schedule that my first student was one that I knew rather well. It allowed us to have a good 5 minute chat about our respective holidays. I was able to tell him about my time back in England and he was particularly interested in the weather that we had had in the U.K. He was amazed that we had had a rather damp, cold and windy summer and was even more surprised to learn that that was par for the course in England! I was also keen to ask him about the weather that he had had over the o-bon holiday period and I was shocked to hear that it had reached record temperatures in Osaka.
It is always pleasurable to catch up with a student after an absence and it provides renewed energy for both the student and the coach. The student is eager to find out what their coach has been up to and the student tries their hardest to use all their skills with their sensei. Today we had fun catching up and learning a little bit more about what the other does, building a better relationship for the next time that we meet.
