One thing I really enjoy is helping my students discover new places right in their own towns which they have never been to.
I have lived in Osaka for about 4 years now and do most of my commuting by bicycle. It’s by far the most convenient mode of transportation. Cycling combined with my curiosity has helped me discover many nice places.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of having lunch with one of my students who was out in Horie shopping for some furniture. During lunch I mentioned that I was heading over to my favorite grocery store after lunch to pick up some coffee, teas and juices for my classrooms. She asked to come along and of course I said “yes!”
So, after lunch we headed over to OCAT to my favorite grocery store, Yamaya!
It’s a really nice store specializing in those hard-to-find import goods. I always buy my coffee, tea, olive oil, big ketchup, big mustard, and many other items there. It’s a great store if you want to buy or make something special for dinner. They have imported food and ingredients for dishes from all over the world. I especially like their cheese and salami selection.
She loved the store immediately and bought several snacks for her son, including the Spider Man theater style popcorn! She was especially excited because she was finally able to find real Basil Pesto imported from Italy!
Lunch then shopping at my favorite grocery store was a fun way to start the week!
So, if you are looking for something special and unique, check it out!

Alex-
Living in Japan, I often miss home. One of the things that helps this longing for home is food. Thanks for the links to an excellent place where I can find import foods. I can now look forward to eating some crunchy Dill pickles and feta cheese thanks to you!
