This is a reminder to Smith School of English students, friends and family that tomorrow (Sunday June 15th) at Izakaya Don Bei, in Koenji (03 3330 6382) from 5pm, 25 plus students along with their family and friends will gather to relax and enjoy each others company while welcoming Tokyo’s unwanted humid rainy season. I am determined to ensure that it will be as pleasurable as our year end party last December. If you want to meet some new friends why don’t you join us too.
Now is also a good time to remind you that the famous Koenji awaodori festival is fast approaching. The following site enables you to see some of the excitement that it generates and should convince you to participate in it this year.

Ken,
It nice to see you on the soapbox again!
This event sounds fun; I also really enjoy organizing these extra-curricular events with my students!
It gives us a chance to relax and interact with our students outside of the classroom and it gives our students a chance to practice what they have learned in the classroom in a natural setting.
I applaud your efforts and I`m looking forward to hearing how the event went here on the soapbox!
Perhaps take some pictures and post them here with some feedback!
Several of us here in the Kansai area recently grouped together and a had a really nice time with our students at a Hanami Party; perhaps you saw the pictures and video…
Good luck,
Alex
Ken-
For those of us to the south, we are already enjoying the rainy season. But don’t worry, there’s a nice sunny break about 2 weeks in! If I lived in your area I would definitely love to join your mid-year event, as It seems that you are a really genki SSE coach. I look forward to seeing pictures from this event and others.
My partner and I joined the Smith’s system only 6 months ago and I continue to be impressed with how friendly and inviting ALL the members of the Smith’s team are. As Alex mentioned, we recently had a large 5 school event in Osaka. After our first seminar, we were invited out for dinner with some other coaches and from this casual invitation sprung the idea for our 5 school Hanami party. The Smith’s opportunity is truly a supportive and imaginative one, and it looks like you are taking full advantage of that for some great extra-curricular events.
Congratulations!

Hi Ken,
I think that these special events really make Smith’s Schools different from the others. It is great to see you holding such fun events. We have been doing this a lot here in the Kansai and recently had a joint Cherry Blossom Viewing party that drew over 80 people from 5 schools.
The soapbox provides a lot of good ideas and information for all of the Smith’s Schools and we are really inspired by each other to continue to do our very best.
Keep up the good work and take look at our posts sometimes and let us know what you think too.
I have recently found that the use of the graphic features and You Tube can really enhance our message. Take a look at that and lets continue to build up our schools with mutual ideas that benefit us all.
Cheers,
Al Bartle (Smith’s Okamoto)
Hi Ken,
It’s nice to see you again on the Soapbox. Thank you for helping us make the Soapbox become better and better. With the photos and videos, it really looks great and is full of positive energy. I have been adding photos to the stuff that I post and it really does make a difference. I plan to soon start adding videos too using Youtube.
Your event sounds like a lot of fun. It’s too bad that I am so far away! Last April I held a cherry blossom viewing event with 4 other Smith’s schools, which was a success.
It was nice meeting you and other Smith’s franchisees of the Tokyo area at a seminar in Tokyo last year.
Have a great event and I wish you all the best with your school.
Take care,
Derek
Thank you all for your comments. It is obvious that you all enjoy living in Japan and being part of the Smith School of English franchise system.
I am really looking forward to this evenings gathering. No doubt like you I regard my students as friends and I just love to see them enjoying themselves with each other.
Hi Ken,
You are most welcome!
