I used to have a student at my Smith’s Fukushima School whose family originally came from Kumihama-cho in the north of Kyoto. I was up there this weekend to look at Kinosaki Onsen, Amanohashidate and take in the fireworks festivals at Ayabe and Maizuru. It’s so pleasant along the Sea of Japan Coast.
The student has relocated for work, but I’m hoping I’ll see her someday in Kumihama, because it turns out I go to northern Kyoto once or twice a month for astronomy! My wife and I just love old country villages in Japan, deep in the mountains or right by the sea. Someday we might even buy a cottage property somewhere and relax!
