I sat down in Japan with Mark Smith and told him what I wanted from a Smith’s franchise. He said if you’re looking to make money teaching English in Japan, you’re in the right place. He told me that I could build a financial bridge home for when I wanted to return to Australia.
Well 17 months later, I did just that. After working smart and hard, I sold my Kawanishi school (by the way, the new owner John Begnaud has grown my old school even larger and gone on to invest in a second franchise) and had the time and cash to travel through the U.S and Mexico with my girlfriend. Upon my return to Brisbane, Australia, I was able to repay my debts put a deposit on a house and fund the start up of my next business, a business coaching franchise which I am operating today.
From my initial investment to the final cash sale price I received a 668% Return on Investment (ROI) in 17 months.
Not to mention the lifestyle on the way, I created a 3 & 1/2 day working week for myself (so that’s also a 3 & 1/2 day weekend too!) and averaged a monthly salary two and half times that of an industry standard English teacher’s salary.
The learning I received through running my own Smith’s English School was immeasurable. Just by being able to associate with other successful owners and the support and camaraderie that exist in the Smith’s network were priceless. Smith’s took the guesswork out of running a successful English school business in Japan, giving me the energy and confidence to believe in and follow the system and reap the rewards.
Mark Smith was true to his word. Investing in a Smith’s School of English Franchise teaching English gave me the lifestyle and cashflow I wanted for my life in Japan and provided me with the bridge home to Australia that I wanted.
I’m well ahead today for having been Smith’s School of English Franchisee.
