As my fellow franchisee, Alex Stanciu explained, Smith’s School is not only for Japanese students of English. I too have had a Chinese student and may soon have a Brazilian student who now lives in Japan and wants to work on her English. She is of course fluent in Portuguese and Japanese. She is Japanese-Brazilian and I met her at one of the local stations about a month ago. She stopped to talk to me in Japanese about how interested she is to study English. Of course, I suppose having Portuguese as her first language and Japanese as her strong second language, she will have some advantages over normal Japanese students. But in any case it should be fun. She also says there are many many such people in Japan who certainly could very easily become students at a Smith’s school.
My Chinese student was a graduate student in English Literature. I worked with her on vocabulary and helped her to check and improve her thesis. She was fun to teach and I still hear from her after she returned to China where she now teaches Japanese at the university level. Lot’s of fun indeed!
