Today a new student started. She works as a narrator and also teaches Chinese. She is very interesting and fun to coach. Her father is Japanese and mother is Chinese and she grew up in China. Interestingly she has been in Japan for two years just like me. Having grown up in China, her Chinese is better than her Japanese but she can speak Japanese very well. It never fails to amaze me how people with abilities in multiple languages tend to learn another new language quickly as well and I can feel that she will do so too with English. What I like about her is how loud she speaks English and how hard she pushes herself to speak. It is obvious that she knows what it takes to learn a new language.
So in the coming months, I am going to enjoy seeing how her English abillity improves. Also, it will be quite interesting to see how she works with my other Japanese students.
So the fun goes on here at the Smith’s School in Okamoto and each day I relish the thought that I am not working for someone else and can really enjoy helping my students to master English and thereby to more fully enjoy life. Language is the key that brings the possibility to make new friends and communicate with many more people.
