Recently, we moved our school to a new location, one station away from our previous school. The difference between the two locations that excites us most is that our new Smith school is now located in a commercial space. With street level shop signage, the free trail lesson numbers have taken off! What better way to celebrate this than to invite our students and their families to an opening party? Of course not all our students could make it on the day, but we had a good turn out with about 40 people attending.
The young ones were entertained in the “kids classroom” with videos, toys and popcorn. Leaving the adults to casually practise their English with other students and friends whilst enjoying drinks and finger food in the reception area. Luckily the rain stayed away for the party and we were able to set up a BBQ close to the front of the school. The smell of (my very popular) Aussie style cheeseburgers and the sounds of laughter coming from our school was the perfect way to introduce ourselves to the neibourhood. Many pedestrians’ heads turned and mouths watered as they made their way past our party.
As the time passed the kids became a little restless, so it was time for bubble blowing competitions outside. It never ceases to amaze me in these times of computers and technology, how much enjoyment kids (of all ages) get from something so simple and cheap as blowing bubbles.
With the party behind us, I am looking forward to meeting new students and building new friendships!!
