The one point I used to end the lesson was ‘Pardon?’ I wrote this up on the board and one of the students had heard of this and already knew what it meant.
When she went to say it, she said it perfectly… if she was going to be going to be speaking to someone very posh, so I gave her the ‘natural’ way to say it. After I had done this the students were both asking me how to pronounce all different types if things, I thought this was great as it gets them to learn the ‘natural’ way to say things when speaking English.
They asked me what sounds better, ‘I would like to…’ or ‘I’d like to…’ I told them that ‘I’d like to…’ is better to use, as native English speakers like to abbreviate things and it will sound more ‘natural’ using the shortened sentence (of course I explained this in more simpler terms).
We went 5 minutes over time but I think it was totally worth it and beneficial to them.
