Summer is gradually winding to a close and now we look ahead to cooler evenings and a bite in the air!
In addition to the excellent Smith’s curriculum, one way to get and keep students is to make a connection with them. Asking about their hobbies and interests is one way to do this. One of my students mentioned that she worked in a self-defense studio. In the course of our lessons, I found time to add some conversational English phrases that would be useful when the studio has foreigners who sign up for classes. She really appreciated this and invited me to come to the studio for a free trial lesson (does that sound familiar?!)
I decided to take her up on her offer and went for the trial, wearing the Smith’s T-shirt of course! I enjoyed the activity so much that I signed up in a few weeks. The student who invited me was pleasantly surprised that I not only attended the trial, but also signed up. It has been a few weeks now, and some of the other students are beginning to ask questions about Smith’s and how they can sign-up! Fortunately, I always carry a few flyers and name cards with me, for just such an occasion! Additionally, my student, the one who invited me gained lots of “cool points” by bringing her Communication Coach to her studio!
Making connections really helps!
