To even out the throngs of summer festival revelers, the cities of Osaka and Kobe have had their Yodogawa and Meriken Park Fireworks festivals on the same night for the past three years. That was August 4th, last Saturday night if you didn’t get to either!
But the big question each year is ……… which one do you go to? Yodogawa is a bigger, grander show but it is also crowded so you’ll need to get there early in the afternoon and have a riverside picnic. If you’re short of time, my preference is Kobe Meriken Park. The show is a little bit less glitzy but has a very comfortable and intimate setting, especially for couples. It’s a perfect date sitting at the edge of the Kobe Harbor eating fried squid and ice cream and having a short walk back to Sannomiya afterwards! Enjoy!
