Hi! My name`s Heidi, I`m originally from Australia but have somehow picked up a half-canadian accent in the last 2 years of teaching English in Osaka. I`ve just finished my first month working at Smith’s School of English Kotoen, and couldn`t be happier. I quit my last job for a number of reasons, but mainly because I wanted to teach kids… 2 months of interviews later, along came Smith’s, and something inside me said `bugger the kids, this looks a bit of alright`… I`d be lying if I said I wasn`t worried at first that I made the right decision, getting up before 5am to go flyering every morning is really attractive… But I actually really enjoy flyering, for every 10 zombies who walk past and grunt at me, there`s 8 lovely people who smile, say `good morning` or even better, take a flyer. And that makes me happy.
My students make me even happier. Especially the ones who bring me cake *laughing*. I`m on a big `going to vs will` mission at the moment, closely followed by a latin roots tangent… When I teach a lesson and the student not only says `hey, I get it now` but uses it in a sentence and nails it, that is job satisfaction….
As for me? I like cheese, karaoke, photography, pop art, and more cheese… In my spare time I`m usually either burning dinner or watching dvds, or reading `A Short History of Nearly Everything` by Bill Bryson – good stuff!
