My students are used to me asking this question from time to time in class.
I have made it known to all of my students that I am always interested in meeting them for lunch if they have time and our schedules match.
Generally Tuesdays and Thursdays are not good for me because I have a pretty busy schedule which starts early, but Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are usually no problem.
As I look at my schedule on Microsoft Outlook I see that I have booked 3 lunches with students next week and another 2 already for the following week!
Most of my students are very busy at their jobs and only have a 1 hour lunch so I always wait for them somewhere outside of their office and I am never late. Arrangements are always made in advance so we can meet and quickly enjoy a nice lunch together then back to work!
I always enjoy these lunches with my students because we can discover new restaurants together and especially enjoy an extra hour of speaking English together while relaxing outside of the classroom.
My Smith’s School of English in Horie is in an area which is famous for many types of cafés so going to lunch with students has allowed me to meet many café owners in my area. Whenever I walk around in the Horie area I always meet someone I know and it feels good to greet them; I am a fellow business owner just like them and this is our community!
I always look forward to the extra time I can spend with my students outside of the classroom.
Unfortunately I have a pretty busy schedule sometimes so I wish I could have more free time to do these kinds of things.
So….. got time for lunch??
