This weekend is SSE Otsu’s first bowling event. We have 3 annual events- Halloween Party at the school in October, Christmas party in Al Plaza in December, and the Hanami Party in Osaka Castle Park in April. We also do numerous other smaller events- movie nights, English cafes, theme parties, special guest events, karaoke, and so on. However, as it’s REALLY hot this summer, we thought an indoor activity would be nice. Al Bartle often takes his students at SSE Okamoto bowling, and he recommended this event to us. So this weekend we’ll be bowling and chatting and having a good time. For students this is an opportunity to use the English they are working so hard at improving in a natural setting, plus it’s a free way to practice English (of course they have to pay to play!), and an opportunity to spend some casual time with their teachers. Plus this event is extra special as our son Teiva will be making his first appearance at a school event. A few students have met him at the school, but this is his first time attending an event. Strike!

Great stuff. Such events are fun for both students and their teachers. My school’s annual events are a Christmas event in December, a New Year’s event in January or February and our joint hanami event in April. I have done other events like a movie event, a joint bowling and karaoke event with other Smith’s schools, etc. These are great opportunities for students to practice their English outside the classroom, meet other students and have fun too.
Enjoy your time with Teiva. We have been bringing our daughter Tina (now eleven months old) to Smith’s events since she was born, even if only for a short time at first. At the joint hanami event she stayed for the whole event. It’s really fun showing her to my students and having her there. (^.^)
Enjoy your school events and keep up the great work!
